Summary: (from NCBI-Entrez) ..[read more]This gene encodes the perlecan protein, which consists of a core protein to which three long chains of glycosaminoglycans (heparan sulfate or chondroitin sulfate) are attached. The perlecan protein is a large multidomain proteoglycan that binds to and cro
Aricescu AR, et al. (Mol Cell Biol. 2002) demonstrated that hparan sulfate proteoglycans are ligands for receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase sigma. This ligand binding is totally dependent upon their heparan sulfate chains. Using molecular modelling and site-directed mutagenesis, a binding site for heparin and heparan sulfate was identified in the first immunoglobulin-like domain of cPTPsigma.
