Summary: (from NCBI-Entrez) ..[read more]This gene encodes a protein that is a member of the dickkopf family. It is a secreted protein with two cysteine rich regions and is involved in embryonic development through its inhibition of the WNT signaling pathway. Elevated levels of DKK1 in bone marr
LDL-receptor-related protein 6 is a receptor for Dickkopf proteins. Mao B et al.(Nature 2001) show that LRP6 is a specific, high-affinity receptor for Dkk1 and Dkk2. Dkk1 blocks LRP6-mediated Wnt/beta-catenin signalling by interacting with domains that are distinct from those required for Wnt/Frizzled interaction.
